I've published updates for both of these:

           https://github.com/nkadel/libserv-1.2.x-srpm
           https://github.com/nkadel/subversion-1.8.x-srpm

I'm tagging those as particular releases get updated, enjoy. And yes,
it's a bit weird to be publishing Subversion integration tools aover
at Github, but I don't have write access to create branches in the
main Subversion code repository. (And I don't currently want it.)

It's not in any of the repositories, and Fedora is still trying to
figure out how to lay it out. (Use /usr/include/*.h, or
/usr/include/serf-1/*.h for the files).

In the meantime, you're quite welcome to my RPM building tools at
https://github.com/nkadel/libserf-1.1.1-srpm and at
https://github.com/nkadel/subversion-1.7.9-srpm.

And the last hurdle I had to jump over to get svn 1.8.0 to compile on my
CentOS 6 box. When running ./configure, I had the following message
show up:

--------

checking was serf enabled... no

An appropriate version of serf could not be found, so libsvn_ra_serf
will not be built. If you want to build libsvn_ra_serf, please
install serf 1.2.1 or newer.

--------

I downloaded serf from:

http://code.google.com/p/serf/downloads/list

Ran the ./configure, make, make install steps

Then I had to tell SVN's configure command where to find the serf libraries:

$ ./configure --with-serf=/usr/local/serf/

I probably could have also downloaded the serf-devel and serf RPMs from
Wandisco's site:

http://opensource.wandisco.com/rhel/6/svn-1.8/RPMS/x86_64/

While running ./configure (on CentOS 6), I see the following in the output:

checking for Apache module support via DSO through APXS... no
==================================================================
WARNING: skipping the build of mod_dav_svn
          try using --with-apxs
==================================================================

Turns out I had not installed the httpd-devel package. After installing
httpd-devel-2.2.15-28.el6.centos.x86_64 from the CentOS repositories,
the warning went away.

Re: Apache Subversion 1.8.0 Released (Can't locate ExtUtils/Embed.pm in @INC)

Another little thing that I found when compiling 1.8 on CentOS 6 is that
we now need to install the perl ExtUtils packages.

Can't locate ExtUtils/Embed.pm in @INC (@INC contains:
/usr/local/lib64/perl5 /usr/local/share/perl5
/usr/lib64/perl5/vendor_perl /usr/share/perl5/vendor_perl
/usr/lib64/perl5 /usr/share/perl5 .).
BEGIN failed--compilation aborted.

Easily fixed with

# yum install perl-ExtUtils-Embed

(I had recently compiled SVN 1.7 on this same box, so 1.8 requires a few
new things that weren't already installed.)
