jdbc realm - digest for cleartext pw does not work

Summary: jdbc realm - digest for cleartext pw does not work
           Product: Tomcat 4
           Version: 4.1.18
          Platform: PC
        OS/Version: Linux
            Status: NEW
          Severity: Blocker
          Priority: Other
         Component: Webapps:Administration
        AssignedTo: tomcat-dev@jakarta.apache.org
        ReportedBy: cybernd@cybernd.at

i just tried to create an additional jdbc realm and i thought its enough to
enter nothing into the digest field (inside the administration webapp)

after storing the new server.xml, this file contains one empty attribute called
digest (digest="") inside the realm tag

the problem now is, that its impossible to start tomcat 4.1.18 .. its possible
to start without such digest attribute, and its also possible to start tomcat
with values like digest="MD5", but its impossible to start tomcat with digest=""

the only problem is, that its impossible to create realm elements without the
digest attribute by means of your administration tool (this means its
impossible to create unencrypted jdbc realms using your adminstration tool)
