[I] [Bug] Date Range filter calendar is clipped/overflowing at 100% browser zoom in Superset 6.1.0 [superset]
23ami opened a new issue, #43897:
URL: https://github.com/apache/superset/issues/43897
### Bug description
### Bug description
The **Date Range / Time Range filter calendar popup is clipped/partially cut off** when using Apache Superset 6.1.0 at **100% browser zoom**.
When the browser zoom is changed to **75%**, the calendar popup is displayed correctly and the complete calendar becomes visible.
This appears to be a frontend UI/layout issue, potentially related to the **Ant Design DatePicker/RangePicker popup positioning, popup container, or an `overflow` constraint** in the native filter layout.
### Screenshots / recordings
I will attach screenshots showing:
1. Date Range filter at 100% browser zoom where the calendar is clipped.
2. The same filter at 75% browser zoom where the calendar is displayed correctly.
### Environment
* Apache Superset: **6.1.0**
* Ant Design: **5.26.0**
* Browser: **Google Chrome**
* Deployment: **Docker / Kubernetes**
* Superset frontend: Default/native Date Range filter
### Steps to reproduce
1. Open a dashboard containing a native **Date Range / Time Range** filter.
2. Keep the browser zoom at **100%**.
3. Open the Date Range filter.
4. Observe that the calendar/date picker popup is partially clipped or overflows from the available area.
5. Change browser zoom to **75%**.
6. Open the Date Range filter again.
7. Observe that the calendar is now displayed correctly.
### Expected behavior
The complete Date Range calendar should be visible and correctly positioned at the default **100% browser zoom**.
The user should not need to reduce browser zoom to use the date picker.
### Actual behavior
At 100% browser zoom, part of the calendar/date picker is clipped or positioned outside the available area.
At 75% browser zoom, the calendar becomes fully visible.
### Additional context
We have more than 100 dashboards using the native Date Range/Time Range filter, so modifying individual dashboards is not a practical workaround.
We believe this should ideally be fixed in the common Superset frontend DateFilterControl/DatePicker implementation so that the fix applies globally to dashboards using the native filter.
We have access to the Superset source code and can build a custom Superset image if a frontend source-code fix is required.
Could this be related to:
* Ant Design DatePicker/RangePicker popup positioning?
* `getPopupContainer` / popup mounting?
* `overflow: hidden/auto` on a parent container?
* Native filter sidebar/container dimensions?
* Browser viewport/zoom-dependent popup placement?
### Version information
**Superset:** 6.1.0
**Ant Design:** 5.26.0
**Browser:** Chrome
### Additional information
The issue appears to be reproducible consistently at 100% browser zoom and disappears when browser zoom is reduced to 75%.
I have not found an existing GitHub issue describing this exact behavior.
If required, I can provide:
* Browser DevTools DOM/CSS information
* Console logs
* Screenshots
* Screen recording
* A minimal reproduction
* A proposed frontend patch

Hi @Kunal8954 ,
Thanks for the detailed investigation. Are you planning to submit a fix for this issue, or would it be okay for me to work on it?
I'd be happy to take a look and open a PR if nobody is actively implementing a solution.

Thanks for the pointers. Here's what I found at 100% browser zoom (broken state): the popup wrapper for the calendar has the class ant-picker-dropdown-placement-bottomRight, and its computed position is top: -91, left: 378, with display: block and parent: BODY. For comparison, the other visible popover (ant-popover, time-range-popover) sits correctly at top: 30, left: 247, also a direct child of BODY. The viewport at the time of capture was innerWidth: 643, innerHeight: 421, outerWidth: 1280, outerHeight: 672, devicePixelRatio: 1.5 (zoom level ~150% by devicePixelRatio). Since the picker is a direct child of <body>, this confirms your hypothesis that nothing is clipping it via an ancestor's overflow — instead, the bottomRight placement calculation itself is resolving to a negative top value, which pushes the calendar off-screen above the viewport. One caveat worth noting: the gap between outerWidth (1280) and innerWidth (643) suggests DevTools was docked to the side while I capt
ured this, so innerWidth/innerHeight reflect the page viewport with DevTools open rather than the full undocked browser window. If that distinction matters for the yRatio/xRatio calculation in ControlPopover.tsx.

Thanks for the writeup, clear repro. Sounds like an AntD popup/portal positioning issue rather than something zoom-specific, likely `getPopupContainer` or an overflow constraint on the filter bar. Could you attach the screenshots you mentioned? Seeing the clipped vs. correct state would help narrow down which container's cutting it off.

I'd like to pick this up. Setting up 6.1.0 locally with a native Date Range
filter to reproduce at 100% zoom first — I'll post the DevTools view of which
container is actually clipping the popup before proposing a fix.

Had a dig through the source — I think the zoom dependence is a side effect
of the horizontal filter bar's overflow dropdown rather than the picker
itself.
At narrower widths the Date Range filter gets pushed into the "More filters"
dropdown. Filters rendered there get overflow={true}, which reaches
DateFilterLabel as isOverflowingFilterBar, and getPopupContainer then mounts
the calendar into nodeTrigger.parentNode instead of document.body:
DateFilterControl/DateFilterLabel.tsx L371.
That dropdown is capped — DropdownContainer.tsx L362-368 sets
maxHeight: 500px with overflow: showOverflow ? 'auto' : 'visible', and
showOverflow flips true once the dropdown content exceeds 500px (L291). So
the calendar gets clipped by that box. At 75% zoom the filter fits in the bar,
never enters the dropdown, and the popup goes to document.body — which is why
it looks fine there.
The comment on L288-290 already notes popovers get "restrained by the
overflow property", so this looks like the same hazard resurfacing for the
date picker.
One thing decides the fix though — @23ami is your filter bar horizontal or
vertical? The path above only exists in horizontal mode; vertical never sets
isOverflowingFilterBar, so the popup already goes to document.body and
something else would be clipping it.

That settles it — parent is BODY, so nothing is clipping it. top: -91 means
the picker is being positioned above the viewport, not cut off by a container.
Also worth noting the ControlPopover itself is fine in your capture (top: 30),
so the viewport-ratio placement logic I pointed at earlier isn't the culprit —
it's the DatePicker's own dropdown.
The DatePickers in CustomFrame pass only showTime / defaultValue / onChange /
allowClear / getPopupContainer — no placement, no autoAdjustOverflow. So they
get antd's defaults, which flip a popup across its trigger but don't shift it
back into view. Superset already has a fix for exactly that (SHIFT_INTO_VIEWPORT
in ControlPopover.tsx, with a test asserting it in DateFilterLabel.test.tsx) —
but it's applied to the outer popover only, not to the pickers inside it.
That also explains the zoom part: your innerHeight was 421. The showTime panel
(date grid + three time columns + footer) is taller than the space left below
the trigger in a viewport that short, so antd flips it upward and, with nothing
shifting it back, it lands at a negative top. At 75% zoom the CSS-pixel viewport
gets taller, it fits below, and looks fine. So the variable is available viewport
height rather than zoom itself — which is why your DevTools-docked caveat doesn't
change the conclusion, it just shortens the viewport in the same direction.
On whether it's been reported before — I didn't find an issue describing this
specific mechanism, though I can't rule one out. The class of problem is known
in the codebase: the comment above SHIFTING_PLACEMENTS explicitly calls out
popups being "stranded off screen", which is what this is.

Thanks for confirming — that rules out what I described. The overflow
dropdown path only exists in horizontal mode, so scratch that.
In vertical mode both the popover and the picker mount on document.body,
so nothing should be clipping them via an ancestor's overflow. The one
zoom-sensitive thing I can find in this path is ControlPopover picking its
own placement from viewport ratios:
ControlPopover.tsx L34-47 — yRatio = rect.top / window.innerHeight,
xRatio = rect.left / window.innerWidth
L99-122 — 0.35 / 0.65 thresholds choose top/bottom/left/right or a corner
placement
Browser zoom changes window.innerHeight/innerWidth in CSS pixels, so the
same filter at the same spot can resolve to a different placement at 100%
vs 75%. And the note on L52 + L77-81 says only top/bottom/left/right get
antd's shifting, with the others explicitly called out as able to leave "an
oversized one stranded off screen".
That's a hypothesis, not a diagnosis — I can't tell which placement your
layout actually resolves to. Could you open the calendar at 100% zoom and
grab, from DevTools:
- the class on the popup wrapper (it carries the placement, e.g.
ant-picker-dropdown-placement-bottomLeft)
- its computed top/left
- whether it's a direct child of <body>
That would say whether it's mis-placed or genuinely clipped, and by what.

thanks for replying,
Confirmed - checked directly in our database, this dashboard's json_metadata has filter_bar_orientation set to null/unset, which falls back to Superset's own default (FilterBarOrientation.Vertical, confirmed in dashboard/actions/hydrate.ts line 362). So this is vertical mode, not horizontal. The core problem: the calendar popup is not rendering properly on screen at all - not an occasional glitch. Specifically: - The month/year header (with navigation arrows) is missing or cut off - The time-selection columns show garbled/repeated values instead of the correct sequential list - The bottom of the popup (including the "OK" button) is sometimes cut off This happens consistently at 100% browser zoom, and reproduces even when hitting Superset directly (bypassing our reverse proxy and application layer entirely), so it isn't something introduced by our infrastructure.

if you look the SS calender is not properly coming , not able to edit and also space is coming below in between pagination and apply filter.
