Powered by TomEE page

Neale has been suggesting a Powered By page for TomEE. Definitely a great idea.

As usual, cook's choice :)

Some options on how we do that might be to use Confluence

  https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/TOMEE

Anyone can sign up for an account. We can control permissions on a per page basis, so that could be implemented anyway we want.

Alternatively, we could just put it in svn:

  http://svn.apache.org/repos/asf/openejb/site/trunk/content/

Maybe add a "mailto:" link for people to send new links.

Likely some other options as well.

Thanks David, I'll add to this tomorrow and try to make it like the Tomcat
one.

Would be great to see some of the users out there add some submissions if
they are using TomEE for their live sites.

I'll write an email on the users@ list tomorrow re that.

Re: Powered by TomEE page

Ok, let's try this and see how it works:

  https://cwiki.apache.org/TOMEE/powered-by.html

That's in the new confluence space and is definitely editable by anyone. Not sure why the other one didn't work, but this one definitely does.

Neale, I went ahead and quickly added an entry for Metawerx just to get the page started. Feel free to update that.

The only thought behind that page is that each entry should start with a "h3." so it shows up in the table of contents.

Anyone feel free to change anything including that if you have other ideas.

Re: Powered by TomEE page

It appears the CMS does have some ability to allow anonymous editing and for a patch to be sent as a result.

https://cms.apache.org/redirect?uri=http://openejb.apache.org

When it pops up the authentication dialog enter 'anonymous' as the username and leave the password empty. You can then edit anything and get some limited preview and then ultimately send a diff to the mailing list or download a diff file that can be attached to jira.

Re: Powered by TomEE page

Posted by Neale Rudd <ne...@metawerx.net>.
Hey guys,

Ok maybe I'm not seeing the Edit option here, so I need some help.

I have tried:
- logging out and back in
- different browser
- different computer (+ also tried on an android phone)
- signing up again with a different user account

confluence1 screenshot - my view (no Edit button)
confluence2 screenshot - confluence docs, showing an Edit button next to
[+Add] [Tools]

How to reproduce:
- [optional log out of Confluence if you have a remembered username]
- sign up with a username - in my case, I signed up twice with a separate
username to the email-address
- go to https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/TOMEE/PoweredBy
- no Edit button appears, but [+Add] [Tools] are there, and you can edit
your profile etc..., can add comments, can add labels

I cannot see an Edit button. Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong here?
Or can you try to repeat the above steps and see the same problem I'm
experiencing?

Best Regards,
Neale

That sounds great to me.
In the mean time, I manually added Neale to confluence-users. Dunno how
maintain the group or if all registered users are automatically added.
There are too many people in this group so I didn't spend an hour to go
thought all pages and check if Neale was there or not.

Thanks, Jean-Louis!

Maybe we can either temporarily remove Neale from openejb-contributors or get someone else not in either openejb-contributors or openejb-developers to try a signup-and-edit of the PoweredBy page to make sure the idea will technically work.

I set it up so that the page should be editable by confluence-users, but not exactly sure if it will work as expected.

Yes, the page is opened to all confluence-users, so as soon as you can
connect, you can also publish something.
In the mean time, I added you to openejb-contributors group and also
authorized the group on this page.

Either way, you should be able to do something.

The confluence space in general requires stricter permissions, but this page specifically should be editable:

Hmm, maybe my account needs to be approved or something because it's too
new?

I can add a new page from the dashboard, but there's no edit tab on any
pages. I can Add Labels or Add Comments, but that seems to be it.

I haven't used Confluence as a user for ages though, am I missing something?
I'm logged in because I can edit my profile etc..

Just a few notes here...

Tomcat uses confluence - easier for people to sign up, but also easier to
damage, it would need a moderator and the occasional cleanup (many of the
claimed Tomcat Hosts don't even offer Tomcat these days, and others have
vanished). I think if you went the wiki way, then other docs or website
pages could also be done via wiki and moderated (which is being discussed in
another thread I think).

SVN is great for single media, but you'd need to give clear instructions on
how to add an entry via the mailing list, and all adding/editing would need
to be done by committers instead of just reviewed (more work, but
single-media).

Either way's fine I think, depends on whoever wants to do the
moderating/committing.
