My JSP's are not compiling correctly in Tomcat 4.0
Summary: My JSP's are not compiling correctly in Tomcat 4.0
Product: Tomcat 4
Version: Unknown
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Windows NT/2K
Status: NEW
Severity: Major
Priority: Other
Component: Webapps
AssignedTo: tomcat-dev@jakarta.apache.org
ReportedBy: dervre@requestfoods.com
I am just now upgrading to Tomcat 4.0.1 from 3.2.2 and it doesn't seem to
compile jsp's. The jsp's that I created are not compiling and neither are the
ones that come as examples with tomcat.
When I run the jsp examples that come with tomcat, they all work fine. But,
for example, if I go to the 'Apache Tomcat 4.0
\work\localhost\examples\jsp\mail' directory and delete the .class and
$jsp.java files and try to hit the same sight with this mail example again, it
gives me the following error:
org.apache.jasper.JasperException: Unable to compile class for JSP
C:\Program Files\Apache Tomcat 4.0
\work\localhost\examples\jsp\mail\sendmail$jsp.java:61: Incompatible type for
method. Explicit cast needed to convert java.lang.Throwable to
java.lang.Exception.
if (pageContext != null) pageContext.handlePageException(t);
I got this same error when I tried to run one of my own jsp's.
It was working correctly in tomcat 3.2.2
I understand what this is saying here and I have looked at the generated
servlet. Java won't covert down the inheritance tree... Throwable to
Exception, but there is no catch for a Throwable object so the Exception picks
it up.
