[jira] Commented: (MRELEASE-611) The update-versions goal fails
when project is not at a SNAPSHOT version

werner mueller commented on MRELEASE-611:
-----------------------------------------
we use a quite common way of creating releases. After the tag was created here and there we need a branch from that tag. Since we use a flat project structure the branch goal fails (see MRELEASE-604) so we cant create the branch and do a release (for having the tag)
the update-version goal could have solved this if it would accept released versions to change them into SNAPSHOT.
I'll attach a patch for 2.1 which introduces a new option so the non-snapshot version restriction can be ignored.

> Trying to use the {{update-versions}} goal fails if the project is not at a {{SNAPSHOT}} version. This is a little silly, as one of the reasons for using this goal is to fix that exact problem.
> It currently fails with:
