[jira] [Created] (TS-777) Increasing logbuffer size makes us "drop" log entries

Increasing logbuffer size makes us "drop" log entries
-----------------------------------------------------

                 Key: TS-777
                 URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/TS-777
             Project: Traffic Server
          Issue Type: Bug
          Components: Logging
    Affects Versions: 2.1.8
            Reporter: Leif Hedstrom
             Fix For: 3.1

Setting proxy.config.log.log_buffer_size higher than somewhere around 24KB makes us start losing log entries. This is bad, since increasing this setting could be a way to increase performance for busy systems. I've for now set the defaults to 16KB, which seems to be stable.

Leif Hedstrom commented on TS-777:
----------------------------------

What's worse, it seems to affect log collation in severe ways. We should figure out why there are such strong dependencies on the exact value of the log buffers, it would be beneficial to be able to jack these log buffers up significantly on very busy machines.

Leif Hedstrom commented on TS-777:
----------------------------------

Well, seems this was sort of a red herring, with ming_zym going crazy, and setting the log buffers to 16MB (and not 16K). But, we should still investigate this option, and make a larger default for v3.1.0 (32-64K seems reasonable buffer sizes to support, and will be good for I/O performance).
