svn in windows

Hi there,
i need to do rsync from my svn repo folder in linux to our windows backup
server to backup, i am using cygwin to do that. everything was ok but i
couldn't see the folders and all, do i need to install svn in windows too?

I would recommend using svnsync to perform the backup instead, it’s easier and you get a safe, incremental backup.  You will have to copy the server config files separately, but your repository is backed up very quickly and efficiently (more efficiently than rsync in this case)

 

You don’t need cygwin on your server to run svnsync – there are plenty of windows native binaries you can use. I run mine using VisualSVN Server’s binaries, but you can use the Collabnet ones too. Google for svnsync as there is excellent documentation on setting it up all over the web.

 

For your particular problem, you need to include more information, can you see the folders in explorer? How are you trying to view them? What do you expect to see?

Please read the “Subversion book” on backups.  Rsync is not an acceptable backup method.
