It simple enough to add '-' to the HOSTS regex, but as always, its a back compat problem with StandardAnalyer. It seems there are new StandardAnalyzer exceptions brought up every few weeks - isn't that why it used to be billed more as an example than the end/all be all? With as many hoops as have been jumped over already  though, I suppose its a reasonable one.
