Commited, looks like a good update.  I didn't know they eliminated *assembly*.  In particular, as part of this JIRA, can you leave a final comment on why they changed from *assembly* and how that effects existing spark apps, for example, will a spark app compiled against assembly based jars fail? Or was this  just a movement of the maven artifacts?

> BPS Spark depends on Spark version 1.1.0 in the gradle build file.  Spark 1.2.1 has numerous improvements, especially to SparkSQL and MLlib.  We should bump the dependency version.
