   thanks for the write up and it seems a valid ask. 
   
   One clarification though: but how do we avoid the same split brain w/ the swapping? 
   if `ALTER TABLE` succeeded w/ hms, but the commit to hudi table fails? how do we plan to guard that?
   
   Also, did you consider leveraging pre commit validators for this? curious to know what challenges you folks ran into.
