[jira] Created: (FELIX-46) Create a simple "felix" script in bin/ to start the framework interactively

Create a simple "felix" script in bin/ to start the framework interactively
---------------------------------------------------------------------------

         Key: FELIX-46
         URL: http://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/FELIX-46
     Project: Felix
        Type: Improvement
    Reporter: Richard S. Hall
 Assigned to: Alex Karasulu
    Priority: Minor

This is related JIRA issue FELIX-44 (i.e., renaming Felix daemon to "felixd"). Perhaps we should include a simple script in the installation bin/ directory called "felix" to start the framework interactively. This is purely a convenience feature for new users to get them started quickly, but it would also further clear up potential confusion over "felixd" for new users.

Richard S. Hall commented on FELIX-46:
--------------------------------------

The issue here was that the fancy installer creates a "felix" program that starts the daemon version of Felix. There is a separate issue to rename the daemon program to "felixd", thus we need another script called "felix" to start the framework in normal interactive mode. This will essentially be what you describe, but will probably use absolute paths so that it can be put in the user's PATH variable if they desire. Similar to what Oscar had...

This is nothing to urgent and we will ignore this for the preliminary snapshot...I will move this issue to 1.0.0 release of Felix.

---------------------------------

    Fix Version/s: 1.0.0
                       (was: 0.8.0)

Moving this to the 1.0.0 release since it is not a major concern for the 0.8.0 release and involves the fancy installer.

Toni Menzel commented on FELIX-46:
----------------------------------

do you mean more than
"java -jar bin/felix.jar" ? (as in run_build.sh)

what do you think of exactly by "interactively"?
