The new {{current_date}} and {{current_timestamp}} functions introduced in HIVE-5472 emit dates/timestamps in the user's local timezone. This behavior should be documented on [the wiki|https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/Hive/LanguageManual+UDF#LanguageManualUDF-DateFunctions].
