Tomcat and Apache on different boxes

I want to have apache on one box and Tomcat on a sepparate box.
Reading the documentation is seems that's preatty simple, just specifying
AJP12/AJP13 worker IP adress and port.

But, this mean that I have to have on Apache box a installation of
Tomcat..corect?.
Or there's other possibility to do this?.
