[jira] Commented: (DIRMINA-26) StartTLS

---------------------------------------

This is a completely protocol specific feature. STARTTLS has also become synonymous with "enabling TLS over an existing IP connection".

STARTTLS is used by SMTP to do the above. XMPP also requires that TLS be enabled over an existing IP connection, but it doesnt refer to it as STARTTLS.

The current SSLFilter already has support for TLS and with the Filter now supporting existing sessions, this is basically a non-issue.

I'd recommend closing this issue.

Agree. LDAP Start TLS would be implemented inside the LDAP protocol code.

However, there may be an implication in MINA : sometimes it turns out that
something needs to be fixed to allow insertion and activiation of SSL on
an existing open connection. But I'd just wait and see what happens when
someone tries to implement Start TLS : they will surely figure it out.
