What do the bookmark_value tags do?

In the Help, what does BOOKMARK_VALUE tag do, exactly?
Where is it used/showed/linked-to-from, within the Help?
Is it just definitions for the index?
To translate these strings, or not?

E.g.
<bookmark_value>backgrounds;text
objects</bookmark_value><bookmark_value>words;backgrounds</bookmark_value><bookmark_value>paragraphs;
backgrounds</bookmark_value>
...
(from

)

In Portuguese-Pt they were translated. If not the index will show in
English. I think?!

Thank you, Regina, I missed that guide.
And Pedro, thank you too; you were correct; bookmark_values are meant to be
used by the index.

Hi Tal,

you can find a lot of informations in the Pootle User Guide.
For boomark_value look at
https://wiki.openoffice.org/wiki/Pootle_User_Guide/Translation_Built-in_Help#Strings_Used_in_the_Index_of_the_Help

Kind regards
Regina
