If the Stellar REPL exits with an exception during launch, for instance, from a "java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: org.slf4j.LoggerFactory", the tty settings (on a Mac) are left in a poor state (no echo).  Should do a "finally" clause to reset before re-throwing the exception.
