[VOTE] Apache Commons to sponsor agimatec-validation incunbation

Donald Woods and I have put together a proposal for the incubator to
bring agimatec-validation into the ASF (see
http://markmail.org/message/xv4p6twshqznxfcp). The draft proposal is
here:

http://wiki.apache.org/incubator/ValidationProposal

agimatec-validation is an implementation of JSR 303 - the bean
validation framework.

The idea at the moment is that (hopefully) this will eventually end up
back here as a replacement for Commons Validator. We would like the
Commons PMC to be the sponsor for this incubating project.

[ ] +1 Yes lets sponsor it
[ ] -1 No because...

Being a sponsor doesn't commit Commons or agimatec-validation to have
to *graduate* to Commons, just that its the current preference given a
successful incubation.

In order to make it easier for commons to *observe* the incubation
effort does anyone object to discussion taking place on dev@commons
rather than a separate list and commits going to commits@commons?

[ ] +1 Use the Commons mailing lists
[ ] -1 Bad idea because...

Any Commons committers would be very welcome to join the incubator
podling - please just add yourself to the propsal.

+1, and I'm hoping we do lots more incubations for Commons.

[Distracting aside.... enough that we could a) spin off a mailing list
for incubating projects and b) move all sandbox projects into it]

I think its up to the project going into incubation to decide who they
want to sponsor. So I would say just go ahead and update it.

Hi Donald,
since I was included in the contributors list, I'd like to renew of my
intention in helping you.
My "status" is changed, from ICLA signed to ASF committer (Cocoon3 and
committing to commons-sandbox)
Please let me know whatever I can do to submit the proposal.
Have a nice day,

Thanks Donald for pushing it!

I'm not a commons guy, but I wait desperately for getting the agimatec stuff over to apache (already using it in a productive project).

What about the package names?

org.apache.commons.validator
or e.g.
org.apache.openvalidator
?

It would be nice to know where the ride goes too, because I'm not very excited if we would have to refactor the whole code over and over again.

Posted by Donald Woods <dw...@apache.org>.
Since the proposal discussion on Incubator didn't lead to a conclusion
on whether this should be an IP Clearance by Commons or a podling for an
existing project (which is now dormant) I would like your consideration
of allowing us to update the proposal to be sponsored by the Incubator
PMC and we'll revisit where the podling lands at graduation time.

I have checked the foundation records and found the SGA (its recorded
now as keba-agimatec.pdf). I don't think we need to do anything with
the source until the proposal has been accepted by the incubator. So
the next thing is to post the proposal to general@incubator. Give an
opportunity for discussion - once thats complete then call a vote.

I was hoping you would do that, but if not then I can.

Sorry guys. Guess using my Yahoo mail and Thunderbird for list
subscriptions was a bad idea.... I've been seeing other posts to the
dev@commons list and directly to me, but none about this thread until
today for some reason....

Niall, let me know if you need any help collecting the source tar to
post with the SGA.

Thanks,

Re: [RESULT][VOTE] Apache Commons to sponsor agimatec-validation incunbation

Posted by Niall Pemberton <ni...@gmail.com>.
Just a FYI the incubator proposal is being voted on general@incubator,
but they have decied to have the Incubator PMC sponsor and use their
own set of mailing lists:

http://markmail.org/message/37oaihbwwiuptt4q

It may well be that Commons is still their desired graduation
destination when the time comes.
