TC 4.1: modified web.xml, restart required?
Hi,
it seems that each time the web.xml file is modified for a webapp, I need
to restart the Tomcat server in order to see the changes have effect.
Is there a way to have TC reload the new file w/o restarting it?
Thanks.

You can easily extend the manager application by adding a filter(involves
writing code) to perform access control.
Via command line - I think there is an ant task or you can use wget (which
simulates a web browser request)

We are managing a shared hosting environment.
Is it possible to give web access to the manager application to each
client?
Each client should only be able to restart the webapps for his/her Tomcat
virtual host.
Also, is there a way to restart a webapp from the command line?
Thanks.

You can stop, then start the webapp via the manager application.

If you use the manager to stop & start the context, rather than
reloading then web.xml is reread.

It depends on modification. To be more exact - manager application will not
help you as it will not reread web.xml. manager application will let you
deploy new applications, but it won't do what i think you are trying to
achieve..
