   I investigated this and concluded that it's an overall simplification to just remove this dependency entirely, as it's pulled in for a simple utility function only used in 3 test files.
   
   The package changed from CommonJS-compatible to pure ESM-only (`"type": "module"` + conditional exports), breaking Jest's module resolution.
   
   I put up https://github.com/apache/arrow-js/pull/476 to supersede this PR and recommend closing this one.
