    This looked like a good patch, did it just fall through the cracks?  The mima test failure was probably just due to the change in signature of KafkaTestUtils.createTopic, it should be ok to add an exclude for that since it's a testing class.
    
    Jason if you don't have time to deal with it let me know + I can fix it
