I like, don't you worry: today, I'm the semantic sucker! :-)

Yup. I've looked into that DTD-deficiencies thing for inspiration, but
dropped some because of laziness or utter despise - all highly personal,
of course. I'll run through it again and see which other ones I could
tackle and report back.

Any suggestions towards versioning? If changes are backward-compatible
(I'm trying hard), will we bump PUBLIC identifiers (meaning people need
to be aware of them), version files explicitely instead of abusing CVS
for that...?

Please check - that was part of the first set of changes already, more
coming next week. No stylesheets have been touched already to accomodate
changes however!

Cheers,

While you're making changes,
can we have <p> allowed in <li> please??

In docbook, <para> or something similar is _required_ within <listitem>.

It seems a list item should be allowed to contain multiple paragraphs in
some circumstances.

;) Subject is just my twisty sense of humour. I'm fine with the change.
We probably should go even further - seemingly petty DTD limitations are
very frustrating. As long as before 0.5 is released, we fix up the DTD
versioning.

Comments, please... what do you think? Is there sufficient interest to
go through a (possibly painful) DTD refactoring? Itches are there, I'm
just afraid (as many of you, perhaps) that there won't be sufficient
time to scratch between releases.

Ok, no problem. Just making sure things were sorted out before everybody
jumps in the DTD and makes changes.

I would prefer to see where we get, and vote upon _releasing_ DTD
changes. Looking at Nicola's list, there's some chance for breaking
backward compatibility, and of course we should vote on that and support
migration. But voting for just messing around with HEAD seems a bit
overkill to me, IMHO.

Yes, after they are done though as Steven points out.

In fact we already have substantial consensus in trying to get
DocumentDTD as near as possible to XHTML (2?), and these changes should
be in that spirit. Let's see what they bring to in practice, and then
vote to keep them or roll them back.

BTW they are all in the "semantical markup" camp, not presentational.

> Those changes will at least trigger a 1.1 -> 1.2 DTD version change.

Yup. That's why I want to see more of them done together.

Don't we need to vote on DTD issues?

Those changes will at least trigger a 1.1 -> 1.2 DTD version change.
