Is there a setting to prevent too many messages coming through?
My client is currently set up to fire messages back to my server very quickly. Around-1 - 3 a second. Does MINA have any type of handling to prevent too many messages from coming through?

For me, a message is a high-level concept in a networking communication
I think that it's a server task to control data flow (by session)

if you want to stop the message flow disable the read for the session,
it will calm down the sender.

Not really. But 2-3 msg/s is everything but high. Your server should be
able to handle such a load.
Why would you like to limit the number of sent messages ?
