"\n." is part of the SMTP end-of-transaction marker "\n.\n", also used by
sendmail to mean "end of message".  could it be that some part of the MTA
infrastructure is getting confused by the presence of this, and getting confused?

anyway, I don't think we can do anything with this unless someone else can repro
the issue with SA; it sounds a lot like something messed up in the MTA level
config, not in SA.
