          Issue ID: 127059
        Issue Type: DEFECT
           Summary: Saving a xls
           Product: Calc
           Version: 4.1.2
          Hardware: PC
                OS: Windows 7
            Status: UNCONFIRMED
          Severity: Major
          Priority: P5 (lowest)
         Component: save-export
          Assignee: issues@openoffice.apache.org
          Reporter: brian.guralnick.1@hotmail.com

Created attachment 85621

Screenshot.

When saving as an .xls, then re-loading the .xls, all the rotation and sizes
and position of my drawn arrows and text boxes are messed up. See attached
photo, errors are circled in red.

I'm running 4.1.2 on Win 7.

Thanks for looking at my example. I have a massive spreadsheet which is part
of a patent application which I'm sending to my Patent agent for proofing &
editing. Both him as well as many other legal firms seem to explicitly demand
Office format for all documents I exchange with them. This is the first time I
will be exchanging documents containing text with graphics & symbols &
drawings.

In a sense, If I could only get a quality transfer of my document with minimal
errors into MS Office, I would would work from there on in, but, we are talking
about 20 pages of text plus 17 pages of spreadsheets with contents like my
example above.

I see I have a few days of editing and correcting to do here. A clean 2 way
compatible solution would have really been nice where I could continue using
Openoffice.

What's interesting is that Excel and OpenOffice mostly agree on their
presentation of the .xls version.

I took your Sample, Bugs.ods and opened it directly in Excel 2016 (as .ods).
It has the vertical line 180 degrees off. Likewise, the 45 degrees up shows in
Excel as 45 degrees down, not up. Finally, the pointing down braces are
pointing up.

There is definitely an interoperability conflict on the ODF Spreadsheet format
with regard to what you did in Calc and how Excel interprets the identical ODF
Spreadsheet format.

I agree, when saved as .xls by OpenOffice, it is much worse in Excel and
OpenOffice. The orientations are just wrong.

Here's a question for you. If you have an user who insists on Excel format,
why not satisfy the user and be assured of interchange fidelity by using Excel?
There have to be shorter-terms solutions that will give you relief.

There is not going to be a solution to this using Calc in any practical time
frame for you.

I've attached a bugs.ods test file. Open this file, then, save it as a .xls.
Close the document, then, open the .xls. Almost every object will be
incorrectly oriented & misaligned.

Does anyone have a solution? I have a major document I need to export to .xls
for publication & all my graphics and charts end up improper orientation and
misaligned.

The users wont accept open office documents.
