More on SVN/CVS/gump/building excalibur
Hi gang!
yes, we are using SVN! No, we are not using CVS! ASF infra has been
trying to get more and more projects to use it; all of avalon completely
moved to SVN a few weeks back. For us to start using svn was a simple
matter of an svn copy executed after some permissions were set.
Like I said earlier, some basic instructions are at
http://excalibur.apache.org/svn.html
Once you've done a checkout as described there, you build it like so:
cd $directory_where_you_checked_out_trunk
less README.txt # build instructions
maven multiproject:install
the following should work too (but doesn't atm):
cd $directory_where_you_checked_out_trunk
less README.txt # build instructions
cd buildsystem/jbs
less README.txt # more build instructions
ant -buildfile install.xml
cd ../..
ant
this is not working because the installation of the jbs build system
won't work because I screwed up a repository on sourceforge. I'll fix
this today or tomorrow. Of particular note is a whole slew of failing
test cases. These have been failing for months.
Gump is not yet building excalibur from svn. Instead, it is building a
stale copy from cvs. I plan to get that fixed today or tomorrow as well.
cheers,
- Leo

please do ;). I think there's just two, in
buildsystem/jbs/build-project.xml

If you change all the "<javac>" tags to use source="1.3" to get past
problems with conflicts with the new "enum" keyword in Java 1.5.

I can confirm that if I use ANT on Windows/Cygwin that the process will
build as long as I use a JVM that is Java 1.4 or previous.
Otherwise, we need to add "source" parameters to the "<javac>" task to
make it compatible with Java 1.5. I will also say that there may be
some API conflicts with some of the libraries in Java 1.5. I have it
installed mainly to get familiar with it--not necessarily for heavy
lifting or to do real work. But I would rather have early warning to
know if I need to change something.

[howto] check out and build excalibur
Posted by Leo Simons <ls...@jicarilla.org>.
Hi gang!
In a unix environment with ant 1.6.1, svn 1.0 and maven 1.0-rc1, the
following should work:
mkdir -p ~/svn/excalibur
cd ~/svn/excalibur
svn checkout https://svn.apache.org/repos/asf/excalibur/trunk/
cd trunk/buildsystem/jbs/install
ant -q
scp -r minotaur.apache.org:~leosimons/.jbs/private-repository/* \
~/.jbs/repository/
cd ../../..
ant -q
should build all of excalibur using ant. Whereas
mkdir -p ~/svn/excalibur
cd ~/svn/excalibur
svn checkout https://svn.apache.org/repos/asf/excalibur/trunk/
cd trunk
scp -r minotaur.apache.org:~leosimons/.jbs/private-repository/* \
~/.maven/repository/
maven multiproject:install
should build all of excalibur using maven. Would be nice if some people
could confirm all this works? Especially someone on cygwin and someone
on windows...
cheers,
- Leo

this now almost works for me again:
cd ~/svn/excalibur/trunk/buildsystem/jbs/install
ant -q
scp -r minotaur.apache.org:~leosimons/.jbs/private-repository/* \
~/.jbs/repository/
cd ../..
ant -q
I'm still getting the dependencies.list files fixed up again (now who
screwed that up? Shame on you!)...
cheers,
- Leo
