Execution time of a superstep

Hello

I am running a giraph app, which does not perform any computation, it just iterates a fixed number of supersteps. Each superstep is being completed in around 3 seconds. I am using a i7 3.40GHz and 16 GB RAM. (The differences between a local execution and a distriburted execution are small)

Is this a normal execution time for an "empty superstep". So, can't I run any superstep faster than that?
