Installation location

Where is the recommended place to install CXF on a Linux machine?

No special recommendation.

I put it in /opt/apache-cxf-whatever, but
/usr/local/apache-cxf-whatever would work just the same.  Or just a
directory in your homedir.

Linux doesn't have any conventions that make it advantageous to put it
anyplace in particular.
