Looking at this [line|https://github.com/apache/calcite/blob/master/core/src/main/java/org/apache/calcite/interpreter/AggregateNode.java#L150], and the referenced [instance variable|https://github.com/apache/calcite/blob/master/core/src/main/java/org/apache/calcite/adapter/enumerable/AggImpState.java#L33], it looks to me that

int stateSize = agg.state.size{code}
will always throw a *NPE* because the *agg.state* object reference is never initialized before it's being used !
