New to avalon

Any one have any good references for a newby to avalon?  I've read through the "Developing With Apache Avalon"  white paper and have struggled through some examples but I'm looking for a good solid reference.  Any input would be appriciated.

Cocoon source code. Really, it's the first application of Avalon and
the testbed for it.
