Forget hook changes

OK, apologies for the haste of the last patch.  The ap.h stuff is still
valid but as for the rest, it can be ignored as I found a much neater way of
doing things.  The way the hooks are sorted actually made it reasonably
straightforward once you start to think in the correct way! :-)
