using explicit hivemodule.xmls

I'm writing a tool that has it's own hivemodule.xml which defines the
services and extension points. But when the tool is used I would like to
allow the user to specify a xml file to use to configure it rather than
discovering all hivemodule.xmls on the classpath. Is there an easy way
of doing this?
