Send e-mail Message from Struts Action

I need to send an e-mail message from an Action, and am not sure of the
best way to to make configuration parameters (SMTP server hostname,
From:, Reply-To:, etc.) available to the Action to do this.

One way to do this that comes to mind is to have a Singleton class that
is configured when the application is first loaded.  Could anyone who
has done this before comment on it?
