JDBC2 additions to db pool

Okay, I've tested and committed Costas's amendments to the db pool to 
support JDBC2 drivers on the backend. I don't have Oracle, so I could 
only test that the changes didn't interfere with non-JDBC2 driver usage. 
However I read over the code and it looks reasonable.

Costas: what is the purpose of the commented out methods at the bottom 
of DBConnection and ConnectionPool? I've left them there for now...
