It doesn't build on Mac OS X 10.4.3. (Not sure that I tested it on Darwin
earlier.)
I get:
-----
make config
configuring for gcc-4.0.0 on darwin-8.3.0-power-macintosh
checking if compiler is sane ok
checking if linker is sane no
int main () { return 0; }
gcc -c -pedantic -nostdinc++ -Wall -W -Wcast-qual -Winline -Wshadow
-Wwrite-strings -Wno-long-long -Wcast-align -D_RWSTD_USE_CONFIG -I. a.cpp
gcc a.o -lm -lsupc++ -o a.out
/usr/bin/ld: can't locate file for: -lsupc++
collect2: ld returned 1 exit status
-----
Is this a known issue?
Finally, not a showstopper, but it'd be *really* nice if etc/config/README
were moved to the top-level directory. =) -- justin

[jira] Commented: (STDCXX-111) [gcc 4.0/Mac OS X 10.4.3] configure

Posted by "Martin Sebor (JIRA)" <ji...@apache.org>.
[ http://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/STDCXX-111?page=comments#action_12362564 ]
Martin Sebor commented on STDCXX-111:
-------------------------------------
It turns out that Apple has only recently started distributing libsupc++ with their gcc -- see:
http://mail-archives.apache.org/mod_mbox/incubator-stdcxx-dev/200601.mbox/%3c64AD06F1E1307E1C8C564526@st-augustin.ics.uci.edu%3e
so this issue is due to a compiler bug/limitation. There isn't much we can do about it but document it and suggest that people either upgrade their development environment to at least Xcode 2.2 (http://www.apple.com/macosx/features/xcode/) or build their own gcc from the FSF sources (http://gcc.gnu.org/).
