Backporting www?, WAS: Re: svn commit: r8170 - branches/1.0-stabilization

IMHO, we have a very simple solution:

  svn mv http://svn.collab.net/repos/svn/trunk/www \
           http://svn.collab.net/repos/svn

That way it is in it's own space, is not included in any distribution,
and is not subject to the question if there should be back/forward
ports between branches.

Heh. Sometimes I get enthused about an idea, and then realize the
negative ramifications only later :-).

Can we not do this change? It's just a distraction. We'd have to
tweak dist.sh, tweak the live web site, and then when tigris.org gets
upgraded, we'll have to either revert it all, or tweak the site again.
We've got more important things to worry about. I'm sorry I ever +1'd
it.

The cost of inaction is merely that we have a (slightly) outdated www/
area in branches. Not a huge problem.

Oops, I hear the alarm on my bikeshed going off, gotta run,

Right now, it's not an issue (we can easily adjust the live website
for such a change). If it becomes an issue later, we can deal with it
then -- it would be trivial to move www/ back if there were no other
solution, and leave a placeholder explanation in the old location.

The discussion on IRC was something about SourceCast compatability was
the reason it was in there.

+1 from me too. Let's wait a couple of days for others' thoughts
before doing it.

This may have repercussions in dist.sh and elsewhere. Probably
trivial ones, though.

+1

I first suggested this around two years ago, and no one saw the
point. I've suggested it a few times since then, including
yesterday, never to much interest. Having this stuff in
subversion WCs and tar files is just plain silly.

I like it! +1 from me.
