Call for Presentations now open: Community Over Code 2023

Hello Fineracters,

The flagship event of the ASF, Community Over Code, formerly known as
ApacheCon, will be held in Halifax, Canada, October 7-10, 2023.
More details are available at
https://news.apache.org/foundation/entry/announcing-our-annual-event-community-over-code

I expect that Fineract will be strongly represented in the Fintech track.

The CFP (Call For Presentations) is now open and will close at 23:59 on
July 13th. You can submit your talks, starting immediately, at
https://communityovercode.org/call-for-presentations/

Travel Assistance will be available for any of you who might be interested
and qualifies for it. You can learn about TAC here
https://www.apache.org/travel/ <https://www.apache.org/travel/>and apply
for TAC here https://tac-apply.apache.org/

Last but not least, we'll need volunteers to run the track, initially to be
on the talks selection committee and then help the track run smoothly by
supporting the presenters at various levels before and during the event.

Let me know if you are interested in volunteering for the Fintech track.

Javier

Javier -

Thanks for doing this. I'm happy to help out where I can, please include
me in the planning committee and I encourage you to keep the dev list
informed of progress.

My input at this early stage is to make sure that we've made the effort to
expand it beyond this listserv. There are other Apache projects that touch
on financial systems that could fit under the FinTech Track umbrella. One
of our most well attended talks in November was about a subject that used a
different Apache project.

Let's therefore include a more generalized description of this Track to be
more inviting and do some additional outreach to other key projects that
may have relevance. For example: Hadoop, Kafka, Elastic, and non Apache
projects like Camunda that support orchestration services relevant for
payments. The description should be something along the lines of
"Financial Services and FinTech are undergoing massive shifts globally,
including moving onto the cloud, and migrating to open source for core data
processing, for ETL, for reporting. The FinTech track invites papers from
those projects at Apache and beyond that touch on these important trends
and technologies."

I think we should scan the market and finTech environment for areas of
interest for our community including outreach to Open Wallet Foundation, to
the Digital Public Goods Alliance, and perhaps Hyperledger, Arielle (XBRL
open source) and perhaps someone from the distributed digital identity
movement.

These are my ideas in lieu of being on the call this week.

Regards,
James Dailey

Thank you, Sayed, Ernesto, Willie, and Ed, for your interest.

I'll setup a Zoom for next week, so we can start planning for the track.

Meanwhile, the most important task now is to bring people willing to
present at the event in Canada and make them fill out the CFP (
https://communityovercode.org/call-for-presentations). Hopefully, this year
the event in Canada will make international travelers much easier to get a
Visa.

Please get in touch with your networks so we can fill the agenda with
interesting talks!
