[jira] Commented: (DIRSERVER-1052) Clean ^M into many files

Joerg Schaible commented on DIRSERVER-1052:
-------------------------------------------

Small advice: Set proper svn:eol-style properties. Subversion will check and automatically convert the file (not only at check-out, but also on commit) and refuse to commit a file if it has mixed EOLs. Have a look at the svn_apply_autoprops.py script (see subversion site) that can apply the configuration settings from the [auto-props] to a complete trunk.

You can set this in the local subversion config file (in ".subversion" resp. "Application Data/Subversion") in the auto-props section. At XStream we keep a file for this section in svn itself: http://svn.xstream.codehaus.org/browse/xstream/trunk/svn-autoprops.config. However, every committer should setup his local svn installation with this entries. At least is this setting used by every svn client.

Cheers, Jörg

Yes, but you still have to find the around 50 files which contains the ^M, to modify them in order to have svn removing the ^M for you :)

I also have a question about new files : I'm afraid that we have to be careful to add the property before checking it in . I hav to dig the subversion doc to see if we can't setup a local option to be sure SVN does that for us :)

Thanks for the tricks, Joerg !

That was, what I tried to tell you. By setting the property Subversion would have taken care of this and done the necessary modifications on its own - it's quite smart ;-)

-----------------------------------------

The apache subversion instructions page suggests you include this in your ~/.subversion/config file

http://www.apache.org/dev/svn-eol-style.txt

I seem to recall this is strongly advised by infra.
