war merge without zip/unzip?

Hello everybody. I am working on a project with a maven build which takes about
20 minutes. That comes mainly from merging about 10 war files. 
Is there any possibility to prevent zipping and unzipping war files? In theory
maven could take things from the target directory instead and build one war file
in the end.
