This seems to have broken 0.90 builds. Can we revert from 0.90 trunk till fixed. See here: https://builds.apache.org/view/G-L/view/HBase/job/hbase-0.90/ Build #458 is where it got committed and thereafter the build fails rolling the wal test.

So from the discussion the test is only a problem in 0.90? Do we know why this is?
Asking because we're close to another RC attempt for 0.94.0.

The issue is apparently only in 0.90. How about we close this issue for 0.92/0.94/trunk and create a follow on issue for 0.90? This will unblock this for 0.94 and Greg can address this when he gets back.

https://builds.apache.org/view/G-L/view/HBase/job/hbase-0.90/456/console looks like a similar hang though not on same test; the tests are aborted midway through.
I think your arg. that its unrelated holds going by the fact that 471-473 fail TestLogRolling in the manner in which they failed when the patch was in place. Lets commit hbase-5213 and figure this failing TestLogRolling out in a new issue.

It looks like it failed 4 times in a row after the commit, and it has currently failed 3 times in a row [see 471-473]. The current failure string is long after the revert (see below). Perhaps we should open an issue to figure out the failure? I'm fine with HBASE-5213 not going into 0.90 until after that is figured out.

I don't think HBASE-5213 caused TestLogRolling to fail on 0.90. Here's my evidence:
1) Jon reverted it on April 6th, but TestLogRolling has hung since then:

2) It runs fine for me locally with the patch applied
3) TestLogRolling doesn't use backup masters, which is the part of the code that HBASE-5213 touches.
