Sorry for the the delayed response..
But if u plan to use it in conjuction with Apache maybe DirectoryIndex directive
for the directory can also help.
eg 
<Directory /usr/local/web/contest/>
	DirectoryIndex index.jsp
</DirectoryIndex>
