NB SpringBoot plugin hangs

I have installed NB SpringBoot plugin to my NB 8.2 on Windows 10 box.
I was trying to create new project.
In the 'New Project' window selected Maven->Spring Boot Initialzr project and clicked 'Next'.
On the next window it shows me Base properties text boxes but all of them are dimmed and nothing can be entered.
Information message at the bottom show "Contacting service..."
I can go back or cancel only but if I do cancel, NB hangs and can only be killed via task manager.
Am I doing something wrong there?

So, the right thing to do is to add your experiences to a related issue
there or to create a new issue there.

That is the place where you do that, not here.

I did try to turn off proxies and it failed with exception.

The issue cab be resolve by adding the property in netbeans_default_options
property in etc/netbeans.conf
property: -J-Dorg.netbeans.modules.extbrowser.UseDesktopBrowse=true

Reference bug:
- https://github.com/apache/incubator-netbeans/pull/860

I had to change browser to ‘Chrome’ from ‘Default System Browser’ to make

Consider using the word 'we', instead of 'you'. I.e., we are all in this
together and also all the source code is available, shouldn't be hard to do
a search and provide a pull request to fix this URL:

https://github.com/apache/incubator-netbeans

I did look at https://github.com/AlexFalappa/nb-springboot/issues and found a similar behavior due to the proxy settings.
Well, I did install latest version of Netbeans and it does behave the same as 8.2.
I did try to turn off proxies and it failed with exception.
I did open a ticket on that https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/NETBEANS-1315
Another thing that I found in 9.0, which I think is a bug (Haven’t reported it yet):
In default application settings for my windows machine I have set Google Chrome as my browser.
However, when I tried to open a browser from IDE, IE pops out. I had to change browser to ‘Chrome’ from ‘Default System Browser’ to make it work right. And BTW, you should have change the default URL for opening browser from http://netbeans.org to netbeans.apache.org<http://netbeans.apache.org>.

+1
Please keep the min JDK version to run NB at 8
	: "corporate" likes major releases
and does not always upgrade quickly
While allowing development with additional JDK's higher than 8
: smaller companies and personal projects
can then use 9,10... to prototype and as a
validation / proving ground BEFORE everyone ugprades

Thanks so much

Re: NB SpringBoot plugin hangs

Hi Gary,

RE: NetBeans & Java 9+
NO WAY :) - We'd lose a massive user base if we restricted to min Java 9,
as I imagine most companies at awaiting until the next long term support
release of Java (11) before seeing which way they go.

NetBeans 9.0 works with at least Java 8(I've not checked 7 and no intention
to) and works well enough for me at work and home. It supports up to JDK
10 I believe, with the upcoming NetBeans 10 providing support up to JDK 11

RE: Plugin and Java 9
Not that I saw on the GitHub repo.

John

Aren’t latest release require Java 9?
We are using Java 8 and won’t be upgrading in the near future?
