Probably not a good idea since we already started voting. In fact, I voted
for 4 because it did NOT use the Apache feather :)

People have talked about incorporating the Apache feather. Can it be
added to replace one of the "i"s in option #4?

I will also need to investigate the situation with using an otherwise
open-source image as a part of one's logo. It may undermine our ability
to protect our trademark. I'll go check on the legal discuss list.

We're talking about something different when we create a logo. We are
creating a trademark (whether legally registered or not), so it will not
be free to use - it will be limited by trademark law, and managed by the
Apache Public Relations Committee.

However, for us to use that logo within ours we'll need rights to that
image. I doubt we'd be able to use it in that context with a
creative-commons license.

A simple solution would be for you to grant the ASF rights to use it, as
it sees fit. This would not prevent you from continuing to license it to
the world using the Creative Commons license.

Is that something you would be willing to do?

The combination of the logo and the "Shindig" word would be our
trademark, and your logo would continue to have its own life.

What will be the licensing of the final logo? #4 contains elements of an
image
(
http://code.google.com/p/opensocial-resources/source/browse/images/src/diagram-gadgetserver-fireworks.png)
which I released under an explicit Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike
License (
http://code.google.com/p/opensocial-resources/source/browse/images/LICENSE)

I'm really happy that the content got incorporated into the Shindig logo
(congrats, Ben!), but want to make sure that the final logo is released
under the terms of the share alike clause of the license (so that others may
use it in their own works).

Hi,

The result is clearly the logo 4 from Ben Smith. Note that Ben plans
to create other version with the feather.
Ben granted it yesterday to ASF on the wiki, so we could move forward with it.

Congrats Ben!

Next steps:
- Ben should create an issue in Jira (ticking the 'grant' box) with
the original layered PhotoShop/GIMP/Illustrator/SVG file
- Ben should sign the ASF Contributor License Agreeement (see wiki)
- Shindig PMC will ping prc@

Yeah, the OpenSocial logo is only there for comparison.

As far as the Apache feather is concerned, we can definitely
incorporate it, I just wasn't sure what the rules were about
manipulating the image were, as it wouldn't really 'go' in it's
current form.

I'm biased about 4, but I also like 6.

Yes, I too was assuming the Opensocial logo was only up there for
comparison.

I like option 4 best, but I presume it isn't actually going to include the
"OpenSocial" logo as well? Just the "Shindig" part, yea?

Also, perhaps there is some way to throw the Apache feather onto the end of
it?
