This looks very straight-forward patch to a possible memory leak in an obscure
but not implausible case.

However, I already show this in the 3.3.0 release in message_tell and
message_filter.  Are we discussing a backport to 3.2.X or can this issue be
closed as already resolved and in fact released?

In short, do we plan to maintain 3.2.X and 3.3.X?
