Building Thrift on Macintosh

Is there some change required to the Macintosh instructions? As I note in a
message last week (http://bit.ly/1AG5a4b), I followed the directions at
https://thrift.apache.org/docs/install/os_x and was unable to build Thrift.
I've tried on two similar machines running Mavericks 10.9.5 with the same
results.
