Jakarta namespace support
Hi,
ActiveMQ will probably add the Jakarta namespace support in 5.19.x:
https://lists.apache.org/thread/mqpyr9t2cngoyqxkw8rwmx7zy7jln745
Is there any preliminary estimate when this version will be released? We
would like to update our project to use Spring Boot 3.0 before the
support for Spring Boot 2.7.x ends in November.
Kind regards,
Jiří

A good time to mention the JMS2 status page for ActiveMQ 5.x:

Hi,
FYI, we will include jakarta/JMS2 client in ActiveMQ 5.18.x (currently
in preparation).

Thanks for your reply Justin. I expected the Hyte artifact was the right
one.
In our case we are using Amazon MQ, a managed ActiveMQ installation, which
is currently classic only. So Artemis is out for us without switching
providers.

As noted previously in this thread you can find it here [1]:
<dependency>
<groupId>io.hyte.activemq</groupId>
<artifactId>activemq-client-jakarta</artifactId>
<version>5.18.0.hyte-1</version>
</dependency>

5.18.0?
I believe the goal is to get it into a 5.18.0 release.
Lots of folks who recognized Spring Boot 3's transition to Jakarta EE have
been migrating to Artemis. Is this something you've considered?

Hello Justin,
Can you please clear things up a bit further for me?
Where can I find the unofficial transitional Jakarta client for ActiveMQ
"Classic"?
What will be the version number of the official transitional client? 5.18.0
?
Also, as a spring boot user I would appreciate any ideas you or others have
on how to pull an ActiveMQ jakarta based client into spring boot 3.0.
The boot devs have removed the spring-boot-starter-activemq support, so I'm
uncertain how one might go about combining any transitional client and boot
3 so that boot's JMS 1.1 support works.
Thanks for any assistance you can provide.

Just to be clear on your options...
You can use the unofficial transitional Jakarta client for ActiveMQ
"Classic" until an official transitional client is released. Then you can
use the official transitional client once it is released. However, Jakarta
Messaging 3.0 is built on top of JMS 2 so even though these client will
ostensibly work, ActiveMQ "Classic" does not fully implement JMS 2 so not
all features will work (e.g. shared topic subscriptions, async sends using
a CompletionListener [1]).
You also have the option of migrating to ActiveMQ Artemis which has always
fully supported JMS 2.0 and introduced a Jakarta Messaging 3.0 client back
in October 2021.

Hey JB-
Yes, a 5.18.0 sounds good.
I’ll PR this jakarta client up and we can start JIRA triage.

Hi Matt,
Thanks for that. I think we should include client-jakarta artifact (in
addition of the regular one) in ActiveMQ for 5.18.x release. As we are
close to 5.18.x release, it would be great.
WDYT ?

Thank you Matt, we will probably wait for the 5.18 release, if the
client will be included there.

Hi Jiří-
I just released a transitional Jakarta client for ActiveMQ 5.x to Maven Central and it should be available in a few minutes.
I’ll work to bring this over into the Apache ActiveMQ OSS project releases going forward, but this should help get you going. This is purely a repackaging based off the 5.18.0-SNAPSHOT build.
This has only been tested with the most basic send+receive function.

<artifactId>activemq-client-jakarta</artifactId>
<version>5.18.0.hyte-1</version>

Hi Jiří
We are doing the Jira triage to define our roadmap. Reasonably, we can
plan 5.19.x on vote for summer.
In the meantime, did you try upgrading to Spring Boot 3.0 reshaping
client (or using Artemis client) ?
