[jira] [Created] (GERONIMO-6142) add backup/restore capability to Derby portlet

add backup/restore capability to Derby portlet
----------------------------------------------

                 Key: GERONIMO-6142
                 URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/GERONIMO-6142
             Project: Geronimo
          Issue Type: Improvement
      Security Level: public (Regular issues)
          Components: console
    Affects Versions: 2.1.7
            Reporter: Radim Kolar

Included Derby can be used for user applications. This is good thing because you do not need to install and maintain external database for not much loaded applications. But there is major problem with that use scenario. You can do database backups only when you shutdown application server.

Because Derby database can do online backups, please modify Derby portlet to allow administrator to do online backups (and restores) to/from specified directory. It would be best if it can be done via Geronimo shell too and then used in backup scripts.

I do not have knowledge how to set-up eclipse development environment to develop G console portlets.

Its simple to do for somebody who has already dev environment setup. Just add new button and link it to procedure similar to this http://db.apache.org/derby/docs/10.5/adminguide/cadminhubbkup01.html

That's a nice idea. Thanks for the suggestion! Any interest in submitting a patch for this?
