SA + VirtualUserTable + Aliases

Hello,

I am looking for help getting SpamAssassin working with my Redhat 7.x
server. I am using a webhosting service that integrates Sendmail and =
vpop3d (I think that is the name).

Basically, the /etc/mail/virtualusertable looks something like this:

user@domain.com user_at_domain_com

Then, in the /etc/aliases file, I find this entry:

user_at_domain_com: /var/spool/vmail/domain.com/mail/user

So, the virtualtable sets up the strange user name them the aliases = takes
over and moves the mail into the user file where vpop3d knows where to =
find it.

The problem that I have is that SpamAssassian does not run via the
/etc/procmailrc file for the virtual accounts. It seems that the alias =
file is parsed before procmail has a chance to run. SA is running fine for
= local unix accounts, but I would like to have it run on everything,
include = all alias entries.

Another problem that I sort of have is that the email accounts are set = up
dynamically through a webinterface. So, if I modify the aliases file, =
then when a new account gets added, the webinterface is likely to erase my =
work. So ideally I would love to figure out a way to force Sendmail into =
parsing a procmail filter before processing the aliases file on the incoming
= messages.

I have searched the archives here, but I have had no luck in finding what I
need. I was thinking that maybe I need an app like MailFilter in there to
handle spam before sendmail does? Help?

Thanks,

Brian!

	Look into ClamAV... It's free...

So,

I ended up installing MailScanner. It pulls the mail out of the spool
filters it, then passes it to sendmail. From a system standpoint, one does
not have to do anything as MailScanner operates first.

After messing around with MailScanner, it has some other handy features,
such as Virus scanning (but you have to pay for a server license from
someone for that).

The best thing is, it works perfectly with virtual users and aliases.

So if someone else is searching for a way to get spamassassin working on
Redhat 7.x with virtual email boxes, then MailScanner is an easy start.
(for the archives)

Brian!

Sounds like your only option is to run SA via a milter.
