Re: [VOTE] Release UIMA-DUCC 2.0.0 RC6

Posted by Jim Challenger <ch...@gmail.com>.
(Sorry about repeating previous note - squeaky mouse).

Investigating these:
1. The agent log for the agent that runs the JD has a small number of
exceptions (3 or 4) that look like this:
24 Jul 2015 13:35:36,399 ERROR
Agent.AgentConfiguration$$EnhancerByCGLIB$$932e0d1d - J[N/A] T[82]
LinuxProcessMetricsProcessor.process
java.lang.NumberFormatException: For input string: "%CPU"
     at
java.lang.NumberFormatException.forInputString(NumberFormatException.java:76)

This is a race which occurs only during JP shutdown and does not
affect system operation. It will be fixed in a point release (or RC7 if
RC6 doesn't pass) but does not affect this release.

2. Of the 31 jobs in this test that spans 15 minutes, exactly one of
the jobs did not get the submitted properties written to the user's log
directory. (This is the first time I've ever seen this). The job ran
to completion OK.

This has never been seen before and can't be replicated. It could
have been an NFS or system glitch. Ignoring it unless it comes back.

3. The RM is using an old and now missing property to sync it's state
publications with incoming state and as a result, is falling back to a
default which causes it to publish more slowly than configured. Nothing
malfunctions but scheduling response is a bit slower than expected.

This doesn't affect system correctness and only manifests in some
configurations. There is an easy bypass if it becomes an issue. It
will be fixed in a point release ( or RC7 if RC6 doesn't pass) and
doesn't affect this release.

To test the RC:
Build and install from source - OK
     Run 1.job - OK
Register use, modify, start, stop, unregister a service - OK
Set up medium-scale test environment and restart -OK
Run stress tests with normal AE-type jobs - OK (with the caveats
documented above)
Run stress tests where all jobs use services; services registered
in various ways. - OK
Run stress tests with all DD jobs - OK.
Multiple start, stop, reconfigures of system. - OK
Spot check all documents - OK

     +1 to release

Three observations so far. I'm not sure they justify a -1 so I leave
that open.

I've installed RC6 and configured to run a medium-sized simulated
cluster so I could run the large stress tests. The test runs
successfully to completion but there are a few oddities.

1. The agent log for the agent that runs the JD has a small number of
exceptions (3 or 4) that look like this:
24 Jul 2015 13:35:36,399 ERROR

LinuxProcessMetricsProcessor.process
java.lang.NumberFormatException: For input string: "%CPU"
     at
java.lang.NumberFormatException.forInputString(NumberFormatException.java:76)

2. Of the 31 jobs in this test that spans 15 minutes, exactly one of
the jobs did not get the submitted properties written to the user's log
directory. (This is the first time I've ever seen this). The job ran

Re: [VOTE] Release UIMA-DUCC 2.0.0 RC6

Posted by Eddie Epstein <ea...@gmail.com>.
- downloaded binary tarball and verified md5sum
- installed single system as per instructions
- verified 1.job runs when submitted as user ducc
- submitted 1.job from a different user-id and it failed because
the log directory could not be written by user ducc.
  This should be documented.
- setuid ducc_ling as per instructions and restarted DUCC
- 1.job now worked when submitted from non-ducc user ID
- configured cgroups as per instructions and restarted DUCC
- **** machines page indicated that cgroups was NOT enabled ****
Problem is that ducc.agent.launcher.cgroups.enable = false
even though documentation says the default for this is true.
This will be a pain for new admin's to debug.
- ran both ducc sample apps as per instructions. No problems.

-1 to release because of bad cgroup default
