   I'd rather say the version bump would be a no-go till we figure out either it is backward compatible, or quite easy way to migrate the old one to the new one. This applies to the changes on LevelDB to RocksDB as well (SPARK-35782).
   
   Given the importance, I'd like to see the efforts in different JIRA and be orthogonal efforts with RocksDB state store provider.
